Chained Silhouette, 2023

As I held the piece in my hands, I found myself questioning the essence of care and its significance in self-preservation. What does it mean to care for something, and how does the act of creation become a pathway to self-healing? The labor I embedded into the chain links became an act of love. Its love reflected my hands, giving tangible sense to the effort of craft that I have endowed the piece with.

Sedimentary Series, 2023

Each coil is meticulously laid on top of the last as foundational experiences are built upon themselves. I use clay to show an unfolding through time, both geologically and as an archive within a physical body. The layers in my pieces serve as foundational building blocks, much like how our own physical bodies are made up of layers that collect over time. The sculptures rely on individual elements building on top of themselves to accumulate mass. The act of laying down repeating layers of clay coils becomes an archive of time within the work itself.
